Black Boy

Photobucket

black boy
you are alone
south africa shimmers
in the darkness of streets
post world cup halo
finding way into veins
old trees tell tales
black is the sun
lingers long in riposte
in afterthoughts
in crippled nights
in hammering
black boy looks around
freedom birds
peck upon
an unforeseen
order
bullets still
love tattooing
a bluewhitesky.

Poem and Watercolor by Amitabh Mitra

  1. There are two energetic compositions confronting the viewer here: A visual and a verbal---both, as usual, stunning.
The painting strongly reminds of Picasso and as a stand-alone, severed from the accompanying poem, can convey a lot. It beautifully captures the SA realties in most striking tones.
The poem is well...typical Mitra: compassionate, political and moral.
Congrats. Each one of us carries Africa in us. Mitra has assimilated this completely in his system. Kudos!
